About

Hello, I’m Sam (she/her). I am a Bristol celebrant who creates and delivers personalised ceremonies across Bristol, Bath, Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds.
I’m happy to venture further afield to Wales, Birmingham, London and everywhere in between.
And if there is a French chateau with your name on it, by all means, ask me to be your wedding celebrant - I did A-Level French!

I love stories
I became a celebrant so that I could tell them. I also became a celebrant because I want you to feel affirmed, empowered and celebrated - all of your quirks, uniqueness and individuality that make you who you are.
And I want everyone present to recognise who I am talking about. Your ceremony will be like a stick of rock, break it open and your name will be embedded all the way through.
It is such a privilege to do what I do and I get to walk alongside couples and families as they celebrate important milestones. Hearing treasured anecdotes, family folklore and legendary stories the putting them into an unforgettable ceremony that draws in everybody is what it’s all about.
What makes me me?
Not to be confused with what makes a meme! I could write dad jokes for a living but promise not to inflict them upon you. I can’t promise, however, not to chuck in the odd pun so please do let me know if you have an aversion to them.
You’ll often find me singing, playing drums, the flute or the piano. I once opened the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury and feel a longing every time I watch the festival on the telly from the comfort of my sofa. I also feel a sense of relief that I get to sleep in a comfy bed that night.
I used to teach music and English and eventually became an assistant headteacher. I loved leading on equity, diversity and inclusion and helping the young ‘uns pass their GCSEs but I worked in schools for a long time and felt ready for something new.

I am a Bristol-based celebrant
I also love Bristol (massive fan since 2006), the theatre, yoga, real ale (mine’s a pale please), midi dresses, bright colours, festivals, wisteria, crochet, walking, the sea (always happy on a beach even in the rain), Uno, sewing, quirky films, travel, living overseas (New Zealand and the Philippines especially), loose leaf tea, equality, coming back to Bristol after some time away (did I mention I love Bristol?) and my family.
Where words fail, music speaks
And of course music - central to memories and ceremonies. It really does reach the parts that other forms of human expression cannot reach. I love Radiohead, Bellowhead, The Lemonheads and lots of other good bands whose names do not reference the head.
Folk, samba, classical, jazz, soul - my taste is varied and eclectic. Thank goodness for streaming services because there would be no room for anything else in my house if I still had to buy vinyl or CDs. (There is still a turntable in my house for all those classics though.)
Oh, and you must ask me about my proposal story. It’s a good ‘un!

"From start to finish, Sam was amazing throughout the whole process. We really feel that Sam went above and beyond for us."
